Mappy-Land (マッピーランド Mappī Rando) is the console-exclusive sequel to Mappy released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986 before being published in America by Taxan in 1989. The game was later re-released for the WiiU Virtual Console in 2015.
Gameplay[]
Not unlike its predecessor, Mappy Land revolves around collecting items and avoiding Meowkies by using trampolines. However, unlike Mappy, Mappy Land has no doors and rather relies on in-stage items, which are triggered by jumping. When triggered, Mappy can also carry up to 15 distraction items which can be used at any time to temporarily stop enemies. These items consist of:
- Cat Toys - Cause Meowkies to stop and dance around the item, letting Mappy pass by them without losing a life. Cat Toys do not affect Goro.
- Gold Coin - Causes Goro to stop and dance around the item. Gold Coins do not affect Meowkies.
- Silver Vine Pots - Cause Meowkies to lose consciousness, much like when hit by doors in Mappy. Silver Vine Pots do not affect Goro.
- Fish - Bounce forward in the direction Mappy is facing, causing both Meowkies and Goro to chase it.
