Pookas (プーカァ?) are small balloon-like creatures from the Dig Dug and Mr. Driller series that live underground. Taizo Hori (Dig Dug) has to pop them with his pump in order for them to get out of his way. These are the most common enemies in the Dig Dug series, and also appeared in several Namco games such as Pac-Man World 2, Pac-Man World Rally, Namco × Capcom and The Quest of Ki.

Variations of Pooka

In Mr. Driller A and Namco × Capcom there are blue and black Pookas named Mage Pooka (メイジプーカァ?) and Dark Pooka (ダークプーカァ?).

In Dig-Dug Arrangement there is a variation that appears to have a boulder on its head. When this variation is pops up, the boulder will fall off, and fall down the nearest dug tunnel.
