Xevious arcade flyer.

Xevious (ゼビウス Zebiusu?) is a vertical shooter arcade game released by Namco in 1983. It runs on Namco Galaga hardware, and is one of the earliest vertical scrolling shooters video games.

Several centuries ago a population with advanced technology left Earth to escape the Ice Age. In the 21st century, the Xevious people, leaded by the bio computer GAMP (ガンプ Ganpu?), return to Earth and tries to conquer it with their army, taking control of several areas. The player controls the ship Solvalou and must defeat the invading Xevious army.

The player moves the Solvalou with the joystick, and pressing the two buttons will fire the air zapper and blaster bomb. The Solvalou must destroy as much enemies across the repeating 16 areas of the game. There are two types of enemies; air and ground targets. The air enemies are defeated by the air zapper, while the ground targets are destroyed with the blaster bombs. The Solvalou will also encounter the Andor Genesis mothership, which has five weak points; firing at the gun points and destroying the core will give the most amount of points. The player can also bomb random areas to reveal Sol towers, which can be destroyed for bonus points, or a Special Flag which grants an extra life.

Xevious was released for Atari 7800, Atari ST, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and Game Boy Advance, and is included with some of its variants like Xevious: Fardraut Saga and Xevious 3D/G+. Xevious is also part of the game collections Namco Museum Vol. 2 for PlayStation, Namco Museum DS for Nintendo DS, Namco Museum Remix and Namco Museum Megamix for Nintendo Wii.

Also, the NES version of Xevious is an unlockable game in Star Fox: Assault for Nintendo GameCube.

Super Xevious

Super Xevious (スーパーゼビウス?) is an arranged version of Xevious that was released in 1984 for arcade. It has increased difficult and includes some new enemies. Super Xevious was ported to Sharp X68000 and is also included in Xevious3D/G+ and Namco Museum DS.
